FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do when I arrive at the tournament?

First, head to the weigh-in station to check in and get a stamp, even if you weighed in the day before. Ensure you weigh in at least 45 minutes before your division starts. Be at your designated mat at least 10 minutes before your division starts, listen for your name to be called for your match, and stay near your mat area for subsequent matches.

How can I find my bracket?

This information will become available once the brackets are officially released in Smoothcomp, typically 3-4 days before the tournament date. To find your bracket, log in > click on one of your matches to expand the menu > select “bracket.” Your mat number is displayed at the top, labeled “Area”.

I won all my matches but I’m not in first place, why is that?

Our round robin points system is designed to prioritize submission wins within regulation time. Points are awarded based on the method of victory as follows:

Submission in regulation: 4 points

Submission in overtime: 2 points

Fastest escape in overtime: 1 point

Referee decision: 1 point

Walkover: 2 points

Disqualification: 3 points

If you won all your matches in overtime, that does not guarantee first place in your division. Competitors with more submissions in regulation are more likely to secure first place.

What if I can't make weight the day before the tournament?

You can attempt to make weight again on tournament day, at least 45 minutes before your first match. Failure to meet the weight requirement will result in disqualification without a refund.

Do I need to wear my gi for weigh-ins?

No, wearing your gi during weigh-ins is not mandatory.

Where and when can I weigh in the day before the tournament?

Specific details will be provided via email one week before the tournament. Stay updated by following us on @avagrappling for the latest announcements.

I signed up for the gi and nogi divisions. Do I need to weigh in twice?

No, you are only required to weigh in once.

Can my child switch to a heavier division on tournament day if they exceed the 1 kg allowance?

Division changes cannot be accommodated on tournament day as everything has already been scheduled. We strongly advise parents to regularly monitor their child's weight in the lead-up to the tournament to ensure they consistently meet the required weight class. If a change is needed, please request it at least one week before the tournament to ensure proper adjustments can be made.

No one showed up in my division. What now?

You will have two options:

1) You are eligible for a full refund; please let the officials know, and they will direct you to the head table.

OR

2) You may opt to receive points contributing to your season ranking along with collecting your medal.

What if I get injured during my gi match and can't compete in my nogi division? Can I get a refund?

That is considered a forfeiture, and you will not be eligible for a refund. Refunds are only applicable in cases where a competitor is left without a match in their division due to no-shows on the tournament day.

Can I substitute for my missing teammate?

No, substitutions are not permitted.

If spectators want to find match details, how can they do so?

Go to the tournament in Smoothcomp, click on the “Matches” tab at the top, where the information tab is located > type in the athlete’s name and click search > click on the match to expand and click on “bracket”.
