Code of Conduct

Greetings Competitors, Parents, and Coaches!

As we gear up for AVA Grappling events, we want to ensure a positive experience for everyone involved. Therefore, we have put together a Code of Conduct that we kindly ask everyone to follow:

Competitors:

  1. Respect is key! Please refrain from any unsportsmanlike behavior and treat your opponent with dignity and respect.
  2. Keep your emotions in check during the competition. It's natural to feel fired up, but we ask that you maintain composure and avoid any aggressive behavior.
  3. Win or lose, sportsmanship is essential. Congratulate your opponent, be proud of your effort, and show respect towards all participants.
  4. Referees play a crucial role, so please acknowledge their authority and respect their decisions. If you would like to make an appeal, please inform officials in a respectful manner and it will be addressed through proper channels.
  5. Should any competitor violate the code of conduct, the tournament officials may disqualify the competitor from the tournament, revoke any prizes or awards, and/or take further disciplinary action deemed necessary, up to and including a ban from future AVA events.

Parents and Spectators:

  1. We know that parents play a vital role in supporting their child's participation in sports, and we appreciate your support. Please encourage your child to give their best effort while maintaining a positive attitude towards everyone involved.
  2. It's important to remember that your child is competing against their opponent, not against their opponent's character. Please treat your child's opponent, their families, and coaches with respect and kindness. We want to create a friendly and supportive environment for everyone.
  3. While cheering your child on from the sidelines, please avoid any distractions or behavior that may interfere with the competition. This includes not only physical distractions, but also negative comments or behavior.
  4. Set a good example by being a positive role model and demonstrating respect and fairness towards all participants. This includes cheering for both your child and their opponent and refraining from any negative comments or behavior.
  5. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to tournament organizers or officials. We're here to help and want to ensure that everyone has a positive experience.
  6. Should any parent violate the code of conduct, the tournament officials may remove them from the tournament venue and/or take further disciplinary action deemed necessary, up to and including a ban from future AVA events.

Coaches:

  1. As coaches, it's our responsibility to emphasize the importance of respect and integrity to our students and lead by example. This includes demonstrating positive behavior and sportsmanship towards all participants.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the tournament rules and ensure your students understand them to maintain a safe environment. This includes ensuring that your students are aware of the rules regarding safety and prohibited techniques. We want to ensure that everyone is competing safely and fairly.
  3. Building camaraderie with your opponent's coaches and families can create a positive experience for everyone. This includes acknowledging their efforts and supporting their athletes. Remember, we're all part of the same community of Jiu-Jitsu practitioners.
  4. Sportsmanship should always be a top priority. Avoid any behavior that may be perceived as aggressive or unsportsmanlike. This includes coaching your athlete to play within the rules and without causing injury or harm to their opponent.
  5. If you have any questions or concerns, please address them through proper channels in a respectful manner. This includes not arguing with referees or other coaches over rules that you may disagree with.
  6. Should any coach violate the code of conduct, the tournament officials may remove them from the tournament venue and/or take further disciplinary action deemed necessary, up to and including a ban from future AVA events..

By adhering to this Code of Conduct, we can create a safe, positive, and enjoyable AVA tournament experience for everyone involved. Thank you for your cooperation!
